What is Girlyman?

Girlyman is the new musical project involving myself and the two members of the garden verge, Tammy Greenstein and Doris Muramatsu.

Is this just going to be another bunch of lonely singer-songwriters touring with each other because they have nothing better to do?

Why, no. Girlyman is something special.

Having studied German in High School, I characterize the situation as a gestalt. Gestalt, for those who are not familiar with the word, is simply "something that is bigger than the sum of its parts." Matt Smith, manager of the historic folk venue Club Passim, remarked upon hearing Girlyman perform for the first time, "Wow, I've seen a lot of singer-songwriters get up on stage and sing on each other's stuff, but you guys sound like a band!" He then added "You are puny girlymen!" and flexed his muscles.

So what does this mean for Nate Borofsky?

I'll be going through a cleansing and re-birth ritual that will allow me to re-enter the world as Nathan Marvel, baritone guitar player for Girlyman. Nate Borofsky will cease to exist, except possibly for tax purposes.

Um, actually, I'll still be playing solo shows like before. It won't be all that different - many of my shows have been with the garden verge lately, so it's not too much of a change. We're all learning each other's songs. It'll be good - gestalt, remember?

But I like the old (solo) Nate Borofsky! Why have you let me down by joining up with other musicians who, although very good, are not as fabulous as yourself?

Please, please! I know everyone wants a piece of me! Well, don't worry. There's still plenty of Nate to go around. As I said above, I'll still be playing solo, as well. And come on - if you love me, set me free to explore my musical journey.

Why are you called "Girlyman?"

Well, I've always been a little girly, and Tammy's always been a little manly, and Doris has been... well, girly. Plus we love Hans and Franz, and we love speaking with German accents, so it seemed a nice fit.

Where can I buy Girlyman merchandise/CD's?

Okay we just started Girlyman, so we don't have any new CD's or anything yet. But we do have a lot of marketing ideas. We were thinking Girlyman T-shirts, Girlyman coasters, Girlyman mouse pads, Girlyman play money, Girlyman cardboard-things-that-you-put-in-your-windshield-to-keep-the-sun-from-heating-up-your-car. You know, the usual.

Nate, your songwriting and performing skills can only improve with the new group. You have always served as an inspiration to so many. Congratulations.
